Men's Soccer to Honor Senior Class, Host Lehigh Saturday Afternoon

BOSTON – After honoring 11 Terriers with their families in attendance, the Boston University men's soccer team will continue Patriot League play against Lehigh at Nickerson Field Saturday afternoon. Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the Senior Day ceremony will get underway before the game's 1 p.m. start time.

The contest is an important one for both programs, as they will not only want to clinch a PL tournament spot but also move up the standings. With three games remaining, American is currently at the top at 15 points to place ahead of Lehigh (13), BU (12), Bucknell (10), Lafayette (9) and the five other conference members. 

TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU is 4-1 at home so far with PL wins over Navy (1-0), Loyola Maryland (4-1) and most recently Colgate (1-0) back on Oct. 10. The Terriers opened play at Nickerson Field with a 3-1 win victory over Brown and lastly came up just short to Northeastern (3-2) on Oct. 14.
  • In the other three PL contests, the Terriers posted a 3-2 win at then-No. 23 Bucknell and dropped one-goal decisions at Army West Point (1-0) and at American (2-1).
  • Through 13 games, two newcomers lead the offense with sophomore Pharis Petrica owning a team-high seven assists alongside three goals and senior Ethan Gill tallying a team-high five goals.
  • Overall, five Terriers have netted multiple goals so far, and five have earned multiple assists. Junior Lapo Romieri (2g,4a) is the only Terrier alongside Petrica to have earned multiple goals and multiple assists so far. 
  • Both reigning PL Midfielder of the Year Diego Rived and PL Defensive Player of the Year Quin DeLaMater are the only two men to have been on the field for at least 800 minutes, currently sitting at 997 and 909, respectively.
  • Senior keeper Sheraz Saadat has started the last six games at net, posting a .744 save percentage and 1.67 goals against average.
  • BU is averaging 0.6 more shorts per game with opponents holding a slight edge in corner kicks, 57-54.
SCOUTING LEHIGH
  • The Mountain Hawks are back on the road after hosting five of their last six contests that included wins over Bucknell (2-1), Holy Cross (3-1) and Saint Joseph's (3-2). They most recently wrapped up non-conference play suffering a 5-1 defeat to Seton Hall back on Tuesday.
  • Other notable results include 1-0 win at Navy, 3-1 loss at American and 3-3 draw at Army.
  • Giacomo Zizza leads Lehigh at 13 points off three goals and seven assists with Thomas Robertson in second at 10 points thanks to five goals. Yusef Gueye is just behind at nine points (3g,3a).
  • Anton Kinnunen has started in all 15 games played, earning a .658 save percentage and 1.827 GAA.
  • Opponents are averaging 1.4 more shots per game (12.4-11.0) despite Lehigh owning a 69-63 lead in corner kicks.
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Terriers and Mountain Hawks are tied in the all-time series, 6-6-0, following last year's 3-1 loss at Lehigh.
  • In 2024, junior Keki Abai tied the game at 55:19 in the second half, but the Mountain Hawks came back 10 minutes later to pull ahead with the insurance score occurring at 67:11.
  • In both 2022 and 2023, the Terriers posted a 2-0 home victory against Lehigh.
LOOKING AHEAD
  • BU will head to Lafayette for the final road game of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 31, for a 6 p.m. start.
  • The teams are tied, 5-5-3, following last year's 1-1 draw at Nickerson Field.
  • In 2023, the Leopards earned a 2-0 home victory, but BU blanked Lafayette, 1-0, in Boston to claim the program's first PL tournament title.
