ORONO, Maine - Powered by a three-goal second period, the Boston University women's ice hockey team rediscovered its scoring touch in a 5-2 victory over Maine on Saturday night at Alfond Arena. Junior Jonnie Bloemers led the offense with two goals for the Terriers, who improve to 10-7-5 overall and 7-4-0 in Hockey East play, moving into a tie for third place in the conference standings.

Sophomore Holly Lorms tallied her first career three-point game with a goal and two assists, while senior Gina Kearns and junior Melissa Anderson also lit the lamp for BU. Senior Allyse Wilcox made 24 saves in goal.

Juniors Jenna Ouellette and freshman Jessica Bond accounted for the Black Bears' goals, while senior Genevieve Turgeon stopped 28 shots between the pipes.

The Terriers took a lead they never relinquished 1:39 into the game, when senior Laurel Koller broke free for a scoring chance. Her shot was stopped by Turgeon, but Kearns was trailing the play and had a rebound waiting for her at the top of the crease that was knocked in for the senior captain's team-leading ninth goal of the season.

BU began to build its lead midway through the second period. Lorms won a faceoff in the offensive zone and got the puck to Bloemers, who was on the edge of the circle and in position to slip the puck inside the near post at the 10:12 mark.

Just over three minutes later, sophomore Jillian Kirchner offered a shot that was slowed by Turgeon, but slipped through her legs to slowly creep towards the goal line. With a scramble for the puck ensuing, Anderson got her stick on and gave the puck a final push for her sixth goal of the season.

Lorms made it a four-goal game at 16:51 in the middle stanza when she intercepted a pass at the high slot in Maine's defensive zone and ripped a shot up top to net her second tally of the year.

The Black Bears began to rally late in the second, breaking through with 1:20 to go when junior Lexie Hoffmeyer's offering from near the blue line was tipped in by Ouellette for her eighth of the season.

The Terriers withstood a two-man Maine advantage for 31 seconds early in the third period, but the Black Bears capitalized on a power-play opportunity later in the frame when Bond took a shot that deflected off a couple of sticks before finding the back of the net at 7:22 to make it a 4-2 game.

Bloemers put the game away with her second goal of the game at the 14:49 mark when Lorms won a battle at the boards and dished to Bloemers in front, who got the puck through traffic and in.

BU put 30+ shots on goal for the fifth straight game, holding a 33-26 advantage in shots on goal.

The Terriers are back in action on Sunday (Jan. 18) at 5:30 p.m., concluding the two-game series at Maine.
