CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After defeating her first ranked opponent of the season and helping lead the 73rd-nationally ranked Boston University women's tennis past current-No. 45 Virginia Commonwealth University, junior Francine Whu earned Boston University's third America East player of the week award, the league announced Wednesday. Whu posted two singles victories and went 1-for-2 in doubles last weekend.

A native of Staten Island, N.Y., Whu dropped the first set to No. 124 nationally-ranked Charleen Haarhoff but earned a tough second set and then easily took the third for the 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win during BU's hard-fought 4-3 loss against then-No. 55 Old Dominion on Saturday.

The following day, she earned a point in singles and helped the Terriers clinch a victory against VCU with a win in doubles alongside teammate Stefanie Nunic.

The award marks Whu's first of the season and BU's third after freshmen Nunic and Petra Santini previously earned the honor.

The Terriers return to action Saturday (April 4) at South Florida for a 11 a.m. start time.
