BOSTON - Graduate student Lisa Kevorkian netted two goals and junior Tiya Gallegos found the back of the net as the Boston University women's soccer team (1-2-0) defeated American (0-3-0), 3-0, on Friday night at Nickerson Field. Junior transfer Katherine Donnelly provided two assists and the goalkeeping tandem of Kelly King and Alice Binns registered the shutout.

Kevorkian opened the flood gates in the first half when she forced a fumble on American goalkeeper Arianna Efstathiou, picking up the rebound and with a wide open net, slotting home the go-ahead goal. Just 30 seconds later Gallegos one-timed a pass from Donnelly to make it a 2-0 game. Kevorkian scored the Terriers' third and final goal of the game when she tapped in a header from Donnelly.

BU's backline was rock solid as it held the Eagles to just two shots all game. The Terriers maintained the 12-2 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Through the first 15 minutes of action both teams were finding their rhythm, however, the Terriers made the most of their opportunities keeping Efstathiou busy with four shots. At 17:17, BU finally broke through with Kevorkian's goal and on the very next possession extended their lead on Gallegos' strike.

In the second half, Gallegos nearly put another up on the scoreboard in the 51st minute as she fired off a point-blank shot that Efstathiou kick-saved out of danger. Eleven minutes later, Donnelly, positioned near the six-yard box, headed a shot towards the far right post that Kevorkian got a piece of as she slide into the net.

The rest of the way, BU maintained possession and with a three-goal cushion was able to slow the pace of the game down.

On Sunday, BU will host Washington, which is receiving votes in the most recent NSCAA poll, at 8 p.m. in the athletic department's annual Terrier Tailgate. The gates open at 7 p.m. with pre-game entertainment provided for all fans in attendance.

Festivities will include a replica jersey giveaway for the first 500 fans, free ice cream for all and a postgame laser show. Fans that are in their seats early will enjoy a special game ball delivery as a part of the pregame ceremonies.
