BOSTON - Currently on a five-match win streak, the Boston University women's tennis team is ranked 67th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll. The 21-time America East champion Terriers were last included on Feb. 4, 2010.
Leading BU is junior Stefanie Nunic, a two-time America East Player of the Year who ranked seventh in the preseason ITA Northeast Regional poll. On Feb. 9, she defeated then-No. 94 nationally-ranked Molly Scott with a 6-3, 6-0 victory to propel the Terriers past then-No. 64 Dartmouth, 4-3.
She and sophomore Vivien Laszloffy have created quite the doubles team in the Northeast, recording wins over the region's top duos from Yale, Harvard and Dartmouth.
On Sunday, they along with junior Petra Santini, freshman Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis and sophomore Jessi Linero recorded singles victories over Syracuse to snap the Orange's six-match win streak.
BU has also received a boost this spring from the return of senior co-captain Vanessa Steiner, who was out for nearly two years due to a leg injury. She and junior Monika Mical earned a key win in doubles against Syracuse.
The Terriers will return to the courts on Friday (Feb. 25) at Harvard against No. 75 William & Mary. Action is set to begin at 12 p.m.
