CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Senior Holly Lorms scored a third-period goal to cut the deficit in half, but the No. 3 Boston University women's ice hockey team was edged by No. 7 Boston College, 2-1, at Conte Forum on Tuesday night in the Beanpot semifinals. With the loss, the Terriers dropped to 22-4-3 and will face Northeastern in the Beanpot consolation game on Tues., Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.

Boston College's Mary Restuccia opened the scoring with three seconds remaining in the first period. Kelli Stack then gave BC a 2-0 advantage early in the third frame before Lorms made it a 2-1 game at the 6:13 mark.

Freshman Kerrin Sperry made 12 saves, while Boston College netminder Molly Schaus turned aside 33 shots. BU was 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Eagles were 0-for-4 with the player advantage. The Terriers outshot BC by a 34-14 margin.

In the first period, Boston College garnered several quality scoring chances, but Sperry kept the Eagles off the scoreboard for most of the frame. She first denied Stack's breakaway with just under eight minutes remaining and then thwarted two close-range attempts, including one from right in front of the crease, later in the period.

The Eagles finally broke through at the 19:57 mark. Stack took the puck around the net and passed it to Restuccia at the top of the crease, where she slid the puck under Sperry.

In a scoreless second frame, the Terriers outshot BC by a 10-3 margin and orchestrated the stanza's best chances with two breakaways. Around the eight-minute mark, freshman Louise Warren intercepted an Eagle breakout pass, skated through the slot and had her backhand attempt stopped by Schaus.

With just under two minutes left in the period, sophomore Kathryn Miller fed Warren through the neutral zone, where she skated behind the BC defense. The Pembroke, Ont., native then came down on Schaus, who stopped the shot.

Stack gave the Eagles a 2-0 advantage at 5:36 of the third stanza. From the right circle, Restuccia passed to Stack in the slot, where she wristed the puck high to the glove side.

The Terriers responded just 37 seconds later to make it a 2-1 game. Following a goalmouth scramble to the left of Schaus, Lorms flipped the loose puck to the far side of the net.

With 5:35 remaining in the contest, BU tried tying the game while on the power play. The Terriers attempted seven shots, but the Eagles kept the equalizer out of the net.

BU will return to action on Friday (Feb. 11) when it begins a home-and-home series against Northeastern at Walter Brown Arena. Opening faceoff is set at 7 p.m.
