BOSTON - Redshirt-freshman Mac McGuire recorded two goals and junior Anthony Ciccone dished out two assists to help the Boston University men's soccer team earn a 4-0 victory over Holy Cross on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field. Sophomore Nick Thomson posted one save in 85 minutes of action with sophomore Matt Daugherty protecting the net for the final five to help the Terriers hand the Crusaders their first shutout of the season.

Earning its largest margin of victory against a non-conference opponent since a 5-1 win against Harvard in 2008, BU improves to 2-4-2, while Holy Cross (1-5-0) suffered its worst loss since a 6-2 defeat to Colgate in 2006.

The Crusaders entered the contest having scored at least one goal in their first five contests of the season but could only manage three shots the entire game against BU's backline. Monty Sanders had HC's only two good looks in the first half with one going wide of the right post at 13:46 and the second being saved by Thomson nine minutes later.

Ciccone put the Terriers up for good when he drove up the left side and sent a cross into the box for senior Michael Bustamante to one time into the back of the net at 28:35. BU kept the pressure up and took advantage of a counter attack before time expired.

After receiving a quick pass from junior Ali Sozeri, McGuire pushed the ball past a defender and rifled a shot from the left side high over a diving Michael Thomson with just 13 seconds remaining on the clock.

McGuire came through again in the 56th minute for the Terriers' first multi-goal game since Stephen Knox ('12) tallied two scores against the Crusaders in the 2011 season opener. In a beautiful series of passes, McGuire fed the ball from 30 yards out toward the goal line on the left side for a speedy sophomore Cameron Souri to grab. Souri saved the ball before it went out of bounds with a quick behind pass to Ciccone, who sent a cross toward a charging McGuire for the goal.

In the final tally of the night, Bustamante picked up a loose ball and quickly fed it to sophomore Parker Powell at 79:56.

Facing Holy Cross for the last time before joining the Crusaders in the Patriot League next summer, the Terriers finished with an 18-3 advantage in shot attempts and 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

After a quick two-game homestand following a six-game road trip to open the season, they will next visit former America East foe Hofstra on Saturday (Sept. 22) at 7 p.m.
