HANOVER, N.H. - Playing in its final non-conference game of the season, the Boston University women's soccer team battled Dartmouth to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night at Burnham Field. BU's record moves to 9-3-3 (4-1-0 Patriot League).
After their 18th meeting, the all-time series between the Terriers and the Big Green moves to 7-6-5 with Dartmouth holding the slight edge. Wednesday's game marked the seventh overtime affair between the two teams and the first since 2009, when BU earned a 2-1 victory in one overtime period.
Freshman Erica Kosienski scored her fourth goal of the season in the 37th minute to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead that they held until the 84th minute when Dartmouth knotted the game. Neither team found the back of the net in overtime, as BU recorded its third draw of the season.
Senior Andrea Green played the first 45:00 and made one save before junior Alyssa Parisi came in for the second half and both overtime sessions. Parisi finished with one save. For Dartmouth, Tatiana Saunders played all 110 minutes in net and finished with five saves.
The Terriers ended the game with a 7-6 lead in shots and a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Big Green also held a 7-3 lead in corner kicks.
Although Dartmouth had a 3-2 shot advantage in the first half, BU came away with a 1-0 lead after the first 45 minutes. Junior Jamie Turchi picked up her second assist of the season with a pass to Kosienski inside. The speedy freshman then turned on a Big Green defender and blasted her shot to the right past Saunders to give BU a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute.
Dartmouth again held a 3-2 shot advantage in the second half and was able to net the equalizer in the 84th minute. Parisi and a Big Green defender got tangled up and the BU goalie ended up on the ground, leaving an empty net for Dartmouth to shoot on. The Big Green capitalized as Jackie Friedman passed the ball to Corey Delaney on the goal line for an uncontested shot to tie the game at 1-1.
The BU defense clamped down in the extra sessions and did not allow a shot by the Big Green. In the first overtime, senior Megan McGoldrick recorded the only shot when she placed the ball on net but Saunders made the stop.
The Terriers had two opportunities to score the game-winner in the final 10 minutes. Turchi placed the ball on net in the 103rd minute but could not get it past Saunders. In the 106th minute, senior Emma Clark tried to find the back of the net but Saunders recorded her fifth save of the game to keep the teams even at 1-1.
BU returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 19) when the Terriers host Loyola Maryland at Nickerson Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
