BOSTON – A trio of second-half goals sent the Boston University women’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory over fellow Patriot League member Lehigh on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

The Terriers kept their unbeaten streak alive at home and improve to 8-3-1 on the season and 3-1-0 in Patriot League action. Lehigh drops to 2-7-2 on the year in 0-4-0 in the PL.

Saturday’s match was the Terriers’ annual Breast Cancer Awareness game. The team sold pink soccer balls throughout the week to hang up at Nickerson Field and raised over $1,000 to donate to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

The Terriers received goals from seniors Madison Clemens and Megan McGoldrick along with junior Jamie Turchi in the final 45 minutes to lift BU to victory.

Senior Andrea Green stopped one shot in 85:19 of action before being replaced in net by freshman Bridget Conway, who made her first career appearance. The duo combined for BU’s third straight shutout and eighth clean sheet of the season.

The Terriers improved to 6-0-1 at Nickerson Field with today’s performance and have now played 650 minutes on their home turf without allowing a single opponent goal.

BU dominated Lehigh in shots by an 18-2 margin and recorded 12 shots on goal for the second consecutive game. The Mountain Hawks managed just one shot on net while the Terriers also had a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Lehigh’s only shot on goal came in the fourth minute of action when Green went to clear the ball out of the box. Danielle Salans intercepted the pass and fired a strike towards the net but Green positioned herself to make the save.

The Terriers commanded the ball throughout much of the first half and fired eight shots, with four on net. Senior Kylie Strom posted the best scoring chance late in the first half when she delivered a free kick right on target but Lehigh’s Ashley Blanks made a diving save to keep the game at 0-0 heading into the half.

Clemens broke the scoreless affair in the 55th minute with an unassisted tally. The senior shot the ball from the top right corner of the box to the left side of the net to give BU a 1-0 lead early in the second half.

McGoldrick added to the Terriers’ advantage in the 71st minute with an unassisted goal of her own. The Lehigh defense was trying to clear the ball out of the box but McGoldrick corralled it and fired a one-timer from the top center of the box that beat Blanks to put BU ahead, 2-0.

Turchi added an insurance goal for BU about 12 minutes later with an assist from junior Ana Cuffia. After receiving a cross from the left side from Cuffia, Turchi headed the ball on the right side of the net for her second tally of the season.

For the second straight contest, head coach Nancy Feldman was able to turn to her bench at the end of the game with the Terriers leading 3-0. Lehigh managed one last shot in the 85th minute that was blocked by the BU defense, as the Terriers closed out their 3-0 victory.

BU concludes its three-game home stand on Tuesday (Oct. 8) when the Terriers host Harvard for a non-conference tilt. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
