ALLSTON, Mass. - In the final tuneup before next weekend's Patriot League tournament, the Boston University women's tennis team swept nine-time defending conference champion Army, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at Harvard's Beren Tennis Center.

With their fifth straight victory, the Terriers improve to 11-6 (2-0 PL), while the Black Knights (21-3, 7-1 PL) see their conference win streak snapped at 65 matches. Army last fell to American back on Feb. 17, 2002.

BU battled to capture the doubles point, which was decided by a tiebreaker, and then coasted in singles action by claiming five points in straight sets.

In doubles play, sophomores Kim McCallum and Madison Craft posted an 8-3 win in the No. 3 slot. Shortly thereafter, Army won the No. 2 match against sophomore Lauren Davis and freshman Barbara Rodriguez, 8-5.

Senior Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis and sophomore Johanna Hyoty put BU ahead, 1-0, with a thrilling 8-7(4) victory over sisters Della and Elle Taylor in the top doubles spot. They served for the match with a 7-6 lead but were broken to force a tiebreaker.

The Terrier duo was not fazed entering tie tiebreaker, as the women scored the first six points before winning, 7-4.

With the momentum, BU rolled through singles. Named Patriot League Player of the Month (March) last week, Hyoty topped 2013 PL All-Conference First Team honoree, Jamila Paul, 6-3, 6-0, in the top slot, while Athanasiadis won, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3.

Both Davis and Rodriguez rebounded from their doubles defeat with dominating singles victories. Davis earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2, and Rodriguez claimed a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the No. 5 spot.

Junior Sami Lieb added the fifth point for BU with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4. McCallum clinched the sweep by rallying from a set down for a 3-6, 6-4, 10-5 victory at No. 6.

With the win, the Terriers will enter next weekend's Patriot League Tournament as the No. 1 seed. Seeking their first NCAA appearance since 2011, they will face off against an opponent to be determined in the quarterfinals on Friday (April 18) at Bucknell's Varsity Tennis Courts.
