BU (11-7-0, 8-3-0 WHEA) went 1-1 at the Windjammer Classic last weekend in Burlington, Vermont, winning the final game against Ohio State, 5-3. Sophomore Victoria Bach was the hero for BU as she notched four points, including two third-period goals. The Terriers have won five of their last six games entering this weekend.
The Terriers opened their 2015-16 season against UConn (7-7-2, 3-4-0 WHEA) at Walter Brown on Oct. 2 and earned a 2-1 win thanks to senior Rebecca Russo's goal with 0.3 seconds remaining in regulation. That victory was the 18th straight win by BU over UConn since the Terriers topped the Huskies, 2-1, in the 2010 Hockey East title game. BU is 21-9-3 all-time against UConn, including a 10-5-1 mark at home. The Terriers are also 9-4-2 against UConn at Freitas Ice Forum.
Sophomore Rebecca Leslie leads the team with 24 points (5g, 19a), and her 19 helpers have her tied for first in Hockey East and third in the NCAA in that category. Most impressive is that she has an assist in 13 of her 18 games, which is the most of any skater in the country.
Leslie is one of several Terriers to be on a roll offensively entering this weekend. Senior Sarah Lefort is on a six-game point streak (5g, 7a) while junior Alexis Crossley has a point in each of her last four fixtures (1g, 3a). Bach has recorded a point in four of her last six games (5g, 5a) and senior captain Kayla Tutino has at least one point in five of her last six games (2g, 6a).
The Huskies are 7-7-2 after winning one of two games at the Nutmeg Classic last weekend. The one loss was a 1-0 defeat to No. 4 Quinnipiac, the Huskies' lone blemish over their last four games.UConn averages just 1.81 goals per game, which is tied for 28th in the NCAA, but also allows just 2.06 goals per game, which ranks ninth in the nation. Senior goaltender Elaine Chuli owns a .953 save percentage and a 1.99 goals-against average but has won just three games this season. Chuli’s save percentage is fourth best in the NCAA.
On the offensive end, sophomore defenseman Leah Lum leads the Huskies with 10 points and nine assists. Senior Brittany Berisoff leads UConn with five goals and she is third in points with eight.
Following this weekend's series, the Terriers will have one final game in 2015 when they travel to Providence on Wednesday, Dec. 9.
