VERONA, N.Y. - Seeking the program's 15th NCAA berth, the Boston University women's tennis team defended its Patriot League title with a 4-0 victory over top-seeded Navy on Sunday afternoon at the Sportsplex at Turning Stone.

The Terriers (14-7) entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed and won all three matches without dropping a point for their 24th overall conference title. BU won the 2007 America East title by blanking two opponents but hadn't swept three teams in one weekend since prevailing in 2001.

Freshman Iryna Kostirko was named the John "Pat" Rooney MVP Award recipient after she won all three doubles contests and three singles matches in straight sets.

With the loss in the first-ever meeting between the two programs, the Midshipmen (20-7) had their12-match win streak snapped. Navy opened the tournament with wins over Lafayette (4-0) and Lehigh (4-1) but quickly found itself trailing BU, as the Terriers won the doubles point by a combined score of 16-6.

Kostirko and junior Kim McCallum teamed together for an 8-3 win at No. 3. Junior Johanna Hyoty and sophomore Barbara Rodriguez matched their efforts at No. 1 with an identical score of 8-3.

Three of the four doubles participants quickly won in singles to give BU the team title. Junior Lauren Davis dropped just one game at No. 2, and Kostirko followed at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Last year's tournament MVP Hyoty clinched the NCAA berth in the top slot by knocking off Sam Droop, 6-3, 6-2.

In other singles action that was halted once BU won the match, Rodriguez was headed to a third set at No. 4 after splitting the first two, while both sophomore Iris Lin (#5) and McCallum (#4) were just underway.
