BURLINGTON, Vt. - Freshman Sammy Davis notched her first collegiate hat trick as part of a four-point afternoon to lead the Boston University women's ice hockey team to a 6-2 win at Vermont on Sunday afternoon at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

BU (14-8-2, 11-4-2 WHEA) never trailed on Sunday en route to securing three of four points from Vermont (6-17-2, 4-9-2 WHEA) this weekend. Junior Samantha Sutherland assisted on two of Davis' markers and added one of her own. Davis provided the primary helper on Sutherland's goal.

Junior Alexis Crossley and senior Dakota Woodworth each lit the lamp while senior Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga provided a pair of assists. Seniors Alexis Woloschuk, Rebecca Russo and Jordan Juron each finished with one assist, as did sophomore Rebecca Leslie, junior Maddie Elia and sophomore Savannah Newton.

Junior Victoria Hanson was sharp between the pipes for the Terriers, as she stopped 23 shots, including all five in the third period. This was Hanson's first start since Nov. 28.

Thanks to Davis' hat trick, the Terriers have now boasted at least one freshman that has notched at least 10 goals over each of the last eight seasons. Davis' final goal of the game was her 11th of the season.

The Terriers' line of Davis, Woodworth and Sutherland combined for four goals and three assists for eight points. Sutherland now has a four-game point streak in which she has tallied two goals and recorded five assists for seven points.

Davis opened the scoring just 2:16 into the contest when she collected a pass from Ribeirinha-Braga in the neutral zone, skated into the offensive zone and backhanded a shot from between the circles that had eyes underneath Molly Depew's pads.

Sutherland and Ribeirinha-Braga once again assisted on a Davis goal at the 14:50 mark of the frame. Ribeirinha-Braga had the puck at the left point and sent it along the wall, with Sutherland slowing it down en route to Davis, who was stationed behind the UVM cage. She retrieved the disc and skated around the zone before finding space at the bottom of the left circle for a wrist shot that beat Depew (20 saves).

The Terriers took a 3-0 lead 3:17 into the second stanza thanks to Sutherland's sixth goal of the season. There was a scrum in front of the net after Davis inadvertently blocked a Woloschuk shot, and Sutherland eventually escaped with the puck. She wheeled around the left circle, came back into the slot and ripped a shot past Depew.

Vermont cut the Terrier lead to 3-2 after 40 minutes, but two goals in a 26-second span put the game out of reach. Crossley started the sequence with her second goal of the season before Davis completed her hat trick. Woodworth then added her fifth goal of the season with 6:50 remaining in regulation to secure the scoreline.

BU will have a tough test on Wednesday morning when the Terriers trek to No. 4 Quinnipiac. Puck drop is set for 11 a.m.
