HOW IT HAPPENED
- Late in the first half, a Crusader loses track of the ball in the box while trying to clear and the Terriers take advantage of it, as Hannah Wilcox sends the ball backwards to Chelsea Churchill, who goes top-shelf to score her first goal of the season and give the Terriers the 1-0 lead in the 39th minute.
- The sophomore didn't waste any time scoring her second of the season, as Churchill scored exactly five minutes later on a give-and-go play with Rachel Blauner, who received her pass and let her get in position to lift one past the Holy Cross keeper.
- In the 57th minute, Jesse Shreck got on the board with a low shot that snuck past the goalie. Libby Closson sent the ball in and Erica Kosienski redirected it to each earn an assist on the play.
- Holy Cross managed to get on the board in the 85th minute when the Terriers struggled to clear the box and the Crusaders capitalized on the opportunity to end the shutout.
GAME NOTES
- The Terriers outshot the Crusaders, 15-11, including 8-4 on net.
- BU earns the first point of the 2016-17 Turnpike Trophy series, which the Terriers won in its inaugural season last year.
- The Terriers improve to 7-1-0 all-time against Holy Cross.
QUOTEABLE: HEAD COACH NANCY FELDMAN
- "As far as the play went, it was more even than the score indicated, which is what we talked about at halftime. We needed to be more dynamic in our movement and I thought that in the first 15 minutes of the second half, we established that type of play."
- "In a lot of ways [Holy Cross head coach] Casey Brown and I coach the same way, and that's not because she 'drank the Kool-Aid' but because we have a lot of the same ideologies. I had mixed feelings coming into the game because I want her to be successful and I want her to play great. I told my team before the game, whenever we play someone we care about, it doesn't change that we want to be the best that we can be but we also want them to be the best they can be."
- "Chelsea Churchill is a spark-plug kid. She played that role last year and you saw that tonight. Even though she hasn't been scoring this year, she comes off the bench and she gives us an offensive spark.
NEXT UP: HOLY CROSS
- The Terriers return home for the final two games of the regular season, first with a contest against Army West Point on Saturday, Oct. 22.
- First kick is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Nickerson Field and the game will be aired live on the Patriot League Network.
