Terriers Fly South For Saturday Afternoon Contest at Loyola Maryland

BOSTON – Looking to snap a three-game losing streak, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit Patriot League leader Loyola Maryland on Saturday with action slated to begin at 1 p.m. The Terriers are coming off a hard-fought 2-1 home defeat to Colgate, while the Greyhounds are riding high following a 1-0 win at preseason favorite American to become the last remaining unbeaten team in conference play.

TERRIER TIDBITS

  • BU is 0-3-1 on the road this season and 0-0-1 in road conference play with 1-1 draw at Bucknell ... They earlier fell to then-No. 8 BC (3-2), Princeton (2-1) and Harvard (3-1).
  • Freshman Matt McDonnell netted his third goal of the season against the Raiders on Wednesday to move into a tie for second in points on the team at six with senior Felix De Bona (3g) and sophomore Magnus Benediktsson (1g,4a).
  • Sophomore Adam Wright recorded an assist on the goal to become the ninth Terrier to tally a point this year ... Junior Anthony Viteri also had an assist during the play to extend his team lead to 12 points (5g,2a).
  • The Terriers have been shut out once this season in nine games by American, and they have blanked two opponents in Brown and Northeastern.
  • Senior goalkeeper Matt Gilbert owns a 0.763 save percentage with a 1.53 goals against average. 
  • BU has outscored opponents in the first half, 8-6, but has been outscored in the second, 8-5.

SCOUTING LOYOLA MARYLAND

  • The Greyhounds are 2-2 at home with 2-0 win over George Washington and 2-1 overtime victory against Navy ... Their two losses came against La Salle (1-0) and High Point (3-1).
  • They have two conference road wins at American (1-0) and at Lafayette (2-0).
  • Loyola has earned the last two PL Rookie of the Week awards ... Barry Sharifi leads the team with nine points (3g,3a), while Brian Saramago owns eight points off three goals and two assists.
  • Matt Sanchez has played every minute at net and owns both a 1.49 goals against average and .681 save percentage with three shutouts.
  • Last shut out in August, the Greyhounds have scored just four of their 12 goals in the first half of games.
SERIES HISTORY
  • Last Meeting: Oct. 10, 2015 – @ BU 2, Loyola Md. 1
    • Loyola struck first in the 49th minute, but BU rallied with goals from recent graduate Richie Robinson (63') and sophomore Nicki Weiners (74').
    • BU finished with a 17-15 advantage in shots, and Gilbert tallied six saves for the victory.
  • The Terriers are 3-1-2 all-time against the Greyhounds and 2-0-1 since both teams joinined the PL in the summer of 2013.
  • In the last meeting in Baltimore in 2014, De Bona put BU ahead in the 14th minute, but the Greyhounds headed in the equalizer with 37 seconds left in regulation for the 1-1 draw.
