TURNING POINT

  • Freshman Breanna Scarpaci scored her first collegiate goal just 2:17 into the third period to break a 2-2 tie and spark a five-goal third period for the Terriers.

GOAL-BY-GOAL

  • Merrimack opened the scoring with a power-play goal at the 7:57 mark of the first period.
  • BU responded just over a minute later. After forcing a turnover in the offensive end, Leslie dished the puck to senior Maddie Elia. Elia's shot was turned aside, but freshman Deziray De Sousa knocked home the rebound for her second goal of the season.
  • Graduate student Mary Parker put BU ahead, 2-1, just 41 seconds into the second stanza. Bach forced a turnover behind the Warriors' net, but had her wraparound attempt stopped. Parker was at the top of the crease to slam home the rebound, however, for her 10th goal of the year.
  • The Warriors evened the score right as a power play chance expired with a shot from the right point that somehow found a way through a sea of bodies in front of senior goaltender Victoria Hanson. That goal came at 16:06 of the middle period.
  • Scarpaci's goal came 2:17 into the final frame. Senior Samantha Sutherland gathered the puck in the neutral zone and got it over to Elia. Elia carried into the zone and dumped the puck back for Scarpaci, whose shot from just outside the left faceoff circle beat Samantha Ridgewell (43 saves).
  • Bach notched her 100th point at the 6:52 mark of the third period. She stole the puck off a Merrimack defender's stick and quickly sent it past Ridgewell for her 51st collegiate goal and the eventual game-winner.
  • Leslie extended the Terrier lead to 5-2 with 11:58 remaining in regulation. Elia forced a turnover at the left corner and deftly dished it to Leslie, who then evaded a defender and backhanded the puck into a tiny pocket of space in the left corner.
  • It became a 6-2 lead thanks to Leslie at the 13:10 juncture of the period. After freshman Abby Cook settled the puck behind the BU net with the Terriers on the power play, Leslie took it and went coast-to-coast for her second goal of the season.
  • Merrimack got a goal back late in the frame on a power play before Leslie completed her hat trick with an empty-netter that was assisted by senior Natalie Flynn.

GAME NOTES

  • Bach became the 10th Terrier to record 100 points at BU. She now has 51 goals and 49 assists.
  • Elia collected a career-high three assists.
  • Hanson finished with 14 saves as the Terriers outshot Merrimack, 50-17.
  • The Terriers hadn't recorded 50 shots on goal since their last game at Merrimack, a 5-1 win on Nov. 20, 2015.
  • With Scarpaci's goal and Flynn's assist, every Terrier skater that has dressed in at least two games this season has recorded a point.
  • Leslie is the fourth Terrier to record a hat trick this season, joining Bach, Parker and Sutherland.
  • Parker extended her point streak to five games (4g, 5a) and Bach moved her point streak to four games (6g, 3a).
  • Five different Terriers lit the lamp for the second time this season. BU also accomplished that feat in its 7-2 win at Penn State on Oct. 15.

UP NEXT

  • BU will host Merrimack on Saturday at Agganis Arena. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
