BOSTON -
The No. 7 Boston University men's ice hockey team was denied a second straight Beanpot title on Monday night as the Terriers were edged by No. 3 Boston College, 1-0, in overtime of the 64th championship game at TD Garden.

After over 60 scoreless minutes of back-and-forth hockey, Alex Tuch scored the game's lone goal 1:57 into the extra session. It was the first 1-0 finish in Beanpot history.

Senior Sean Maguire was spectacular for BU, making 41 saves en route to being named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Maguire also won the Eberly Award, given to the goaltender with the highest save percentage over the two games. The senior netminder stopped 65 of 67 shots he faced for a save percentage of .970.

Maguire became the first Terrier to claim the Eberly Award since Kieran Millan did so in 2012. He was also the first goaltender to earn MVP honors since 2010 and the first BU netminder to do so since John Curry in 2007.

The Terriers attempted 30 shots on goal but were unable to beat Thatcher Demko. Senior Danny O'Regan had a splendid chance late in the game when he created space for himself and ripped a shot that Demko was able to kick aside.

The loss snapped BU's season-best five-game win streak, which was tied for the longest current run in the nation entering the night.

BU overcame a sluggish opening period in which it allowed 23 shots on goal. There was also a 29-minute minute delay in the middle of the first due to a power surge that dimmed lighting at the top of the building.

The Terriers got better as the game went on and matched the Eagles' effort in the second and third stanzas, which were highlighted by back-and-forth play and exceptional defense.

No penalties were called in the final 32 minutes of regulation. BU went 0-for-2 on the power play and successfully killed off all three of BC's man-up opportunities.

Senior Ahti Oksanen recorded a game-high six shots for the Terriers and freshman Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson had a game-best 17 faceoff wins. Maguire's 41-save effort now gives him a .924 career save percentage, which would be the highest in program history if it were to hold up.

Four important Hockey East points will be on the line this weekend for the Terriers when they play a home-and-home series with UMass Lowell. That two-game set will begin at Agganis Arena on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
