BOSTON - Junior Maddie Elia notched two goals and an assist, but the Boston University women's ice hockey team suffered a 5-3 setback to Harvard in the 38th Women's Beanpot consolation game on Tuesday night at Walter Brown Arena.

BU (17-11-2) took a 3-1 advantage into the second period, but Harvard (14-9-2) scored the final four goals of the contest, including the game-winner with 58 seconds on the clock, to secure third place.

Elia recorded three points in a game for the third time this season, opening the scoring just 1:14 into the proceedings and then lighting the lamp less than three minutes later to stake the Terriers to a 2-0 lead. She then assisted on freshman Sammy Davis' 12th marker of the year at the 7:33 mark of the opening frame.

Sophomore Rebecca Leslie tallied her 31st assist of the season on Elia's second strike while senior Rebecca Russo extended her point streak to five games with her 18th helper of the year. Senior Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga also had an assist. Junior Victoria Hanson made 26 saves, including 13 in the second period.

Hard work after an offensive-zone faceoff led to Elia's first goal. She won a battle in the corner, skated to the left circle and uncorked a shot past Emerance Maschmeyer (24 saves). She then made it 2-0 with a shot from between the circles.

Harvard made it 2-1 at the 4:37 mark, but Davis regained the Terriers' two-goal advantage minutes later on one of their four power play chances. Ribeirinha-Braga fired a shot from the point and Elia nearly redirected the puck home. The disc ended up on Davis' stick, however, and she deposited it into the back of the net.

Harvard made it 3-2 in the second period and then scored three times in the third period to secure the result. Sydney Daniels lit the lamp at 13:48 to tie the game before recording the winner in the final minute. Miye D'Oench added an empty-netter at the buzzer.

BU almost had a 4-2 lead when sophomore Victoria Bach got behind the Crimson defense and skated in on Maschmeyer. Her backhand shot was stopped and a quick whistle ensued before it was clear where the puck was. Moments later, Harvard equalized on Daniels' marker.

League play awaits the Terriers over the final two weekends of the regular season, beginning with a home-and-home series against New Hampshire that starts Saturday at Walter Brown Arena (3 p.m.).
