Facing their second nationally-ranked opponent of the season, the Boston University women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision at No. 68 Brown on Friday afternoon.
With their third one-point loss, the Terriers fall to 6-6, while the Bears improve to 11-4 after winning the first two doubles matches and the top three singles contests.
Brown jumped out to the early 1-0 lead by claiming a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and 7-5 victory in the No. 2 slot.
Two-time All-Ivy League First Team honoree Dayna Lord quickly extended the lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win over senior Johanna Hyoty in the top singles slot. Classmate Lauren Davis battled No. 68 Alyza Benotto to the end but came up a break and tiebreaker short for the 6-4, 7-6 loss.
Reigning PL Player of the Week Iryna Kostirko won her first set at line 3, but All-Ivy League member Hannah Camhi rallied for the 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory to seal the team win.
Freshman Remi Ramos tried to mount the rally by winning in straight sets at line 4 against Maddie Stearns (7-6, 6-4). Junior Barbara Rodriguez (#5) rallied from a set down in the No. 5 spot for the 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory. With the team result already decided, senior Kim McCallum posted an 8-6 win at line 6 for the final BU point.
The Terriers will next remain in Providence and face No. 71 Old Dominion on Saturday at 10 a.m.
