NEW YORK CITY – The defending Patriot League champion Boston University women's tennis team opened the 2016 fall schedule at the three-day Columbia Invitational over the weekend against the 37th-ranked host Lions and No. 27 Syracuse. Junior Iryna Kostirko and sophomore Remi Ramos both won the consolation bracket for their respective singles flight to lead the Terriers.

Kostirko opened with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-2 loss against No. 59 Gabriela Kutson before rallying for a three-set win over senior Barbara Rodriguez (6-7, 6-2, 6-4) and two-set victory against Columbia's Alex Solovyev (6-4, 6-4), a former five-star recruit. Ramos bounced back from a tough three-set opening-round loss by dropping just one game total in straight-set wins over senior Madison Craft and the Lions' Vivian Cheng.

The Terriers will next compete at the Harvard Fall Classic on Sept. 23-25.
