BOSTON - One of the biggest rivalries in college hockey kicks off a span of three meetings in 25 days on Friday when the No. 5 Boston University men's ice hockey team hosts No. 8 Boston College at Agganis Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m. The teams will face off in Chestnut Hill on Monday before meeting again in the semifinals of this year's Beanpot on Feb. 6.
For those unable to attend Friday's game, the only way to watch it is on TerrierTV. The free stream can be found here.Â
GAINING STEAM
• The Terriers are 6-1-1 in their past eight games and are riding a season-best four-game win streak following Sunday's 5-3 win against UMass at Frozen Fenway.
• BU has scored exactly five goals in each of its past three contests.
• Four wins this season have been shutouts, and for the first time in the Terriers' 95-season history, they blanked their first three home opponents.Â
SERIES HISTORY
• The Comm. Ave. rivals have met 270 times and the Terriers lead the series, 130-122-18 (.515).
• BU has struggled at home against the Eagles since Agganis Arena opened, going 3-11-2 (.250) against them in the building.
• The Terriers have only allowed two BC goals in the past 127 minutes of play against their rival but only have a tie to show for it.Â
• In the past five meetings, BU has been called for more penalties in four of them while the penalties were even in the other one.
• No other opponent has appeared on BU's schedule more often. Northeastern is the next closest, having faced the Terriers 229 times since the 1930-31 season.
• BU's first season of hockey was 1917-18 and played its lone game that year against BC.
• The two teams have played 41 overtime games and BC holds a 15-9-17 edge.
• The Terriers have eight of the 17 shutouts in the series history.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
• Boston College sits atop the Hockey East standings with a 9-1-1 record (19 points) but is 5-6-1 in non-conference play.
• The Eagles, who strung together a 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1) in the first semester are 4-5-1 since then and 1-2-1 in their past four. They are coming off a 3-1 victory over Providence at Frozen Fenway on Sunday. Â
• BC leads the nation in points (219) and assists (141).Â
• The Eagles have a plus-85 shot differential in the first period but are minus-39 in the third.Â
• Senior Matt Gaudreau leads the squad in points (22) and assists (16) while sophomore Colin White has a team-best 10 goals. Sophomore Christopher Brown has 18 points (6g, 12a) while White (10g, 7a) and seniors Austin Cangelosi (9g, 8a) and Ryan Fitzgerald (5g, 12a) have added 17 apiece.
• Freshman Joseph Woll, who earned a gold medal with Team USA at last week's World Juniors along with White and sophomore Casey Fitzgerald, has made 18 starts in goal and boasts a .920 save percentage and a 2.43 goals-against average. Â
LAST SEASON VS. THE EAGLES
• Boston University was winless against its archrival last season, dropping two games and tying another.
• In a game that featured five power-play goals, a late tally by BC's Ian McCoshen pushed the Eagles to a 5-3 home win on Jan. 15.
• The following night at Agganis, BC struck late again, negating a second-period Matt Grzelcyk goal to earn a 1-1 draw.
• In the championship game of Beanpot, the teams were scoreless through regulation before BC's Alex Tuch ended it just 1:57 into overtime. Sean Maguire made 41 saves for BU and was named Beanpot MVP.
SUNDAY AT THE BALLPARK
• The Terriers are coming off a 5-3 victory over Massachusetts on Sunday in their third appearance at Frozen Fenway.Â
• Sophomore Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson scored the game's first two goals and classmate Charlie McAvoy converted on a power play at 13:52 of the middle stanza to push the lead to 3-0.
• UMass would get on the board before the end of the second, however, and then add a shorthanded goal at 8:21 of the third to make it 3-2.
• Freshmen Chad Krys and Gabriel Chabot responded by scoring 48 seconds apart to regain a three-goal edge at 5-2 before the Minutemen scored in the final minute of play.
• BU has now won its past seven meetings with the Minutemen and is 15-2-3 against them since the beginning of 2010.
• The Terriers held a 30-29 shot advantage and got a 26-save performance from Jake Oettinger.
• All six BU skaters who competed in the World Junior Championship recorded at least one point.
JFK'S BIG WEEK
• After scoring five goals in two games, sophomore Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson was an easy choice for Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday.
• In the second-half opener on Jan. 5, Forsbacka Karlsson recorded his first collegiate hat trick, including the game-tying and overtime goals, in a 5-4 victory over No. 10 Union.Â
• He followed that up by scoring the first two goals in the Terriers' 5-3 win over UMass at Frozen Fenway on Sunday.
• The Swedish pivot now leads the team in goals this season with eight and is second in points with 20.Â
• His final goal against UMass marked the 50th point of his collegiate career.

ROOKIE NETMINDER IMPRESSES
• Freshman Jake Oettinger has won three Hockey East weekly awards and was named the league's Goaltender of the Month for October.
• The Minnesota native leads all Hockey East netminders in both goals-against average (1.94) and save percentage (.930).
• He currently ranks fifth in the nation in goals-against average and ninth in save percentage.Â
• Oettinger did his part to excite the Agganis faithful as he put together a home shutout skein of 204:41 to start his career.
• He closed October with back-to-back shutouts as part of a 134:14 shutout streak that was the sixth-best in program history.Â
PENALTY KILL EXCELS
• The Terriers' penalty kill ranks third in the nation with an 90.2-percent success rate (101-of-112) and has successfully killed off 50 of its opponents' past 55 power plays.
• Earlier this season, BU killed off 22 straight opponent power plays, its longest such streak since 25 straight in March 2011.Â
• The Terriers have already scored six shorthanded goals after totaling just two all of last season. That total is tied for first in the nation with Harvard and Nebraska-Omaha.

• It was the longest since a 10-game win streak at Walter Brown Arena that started on Feb. 28, 1997, before ending on Dec. 9 later that year.
• BU is 22-3-3 in its past 28 home contests.
• Last season, the Terriers had the highest home winning percentage in Agganis' 11-year history, posting a 14-2-2 record (.833).
