The Boston University women's ice hockey team will begin its quest for the first Beanpot title as a varsity program on Tuesday night when the Terriers take on No. 6 Boston College in the 39th annual Women's Beanpot at Northeastern's Matthews Arena. Puck drop is set for 5 p.m.

BU (13-9-5, 8-8-4 WHEA) and BC (19-3-4, 15-2-2 WHEA) have not met in the Beanpot since the opening round of the 2014 tournament. The Terriers are looking to get back to the title game for the first time since 2012 and in the process keep the Eagles from successfully defending their championship from last year.

One Terrier has tasted success in the Beanpot, and that is graduate student Mary Parker. She won the tournament with Harvard in 2014 and has tallied seven points (5g, 2a) in six career Beanpot games. Senior Maddie Elia (2g, 2a) leads all other Terriers in Beanpot scoring with four points.

This will be the fourth and final regular-season meeting between BU and BC, as the two rivals have completed their Hockey East schedule against one another. The teams went 1-1-1 in those tilts, with both teams earning 5-3 home wins in November before skating to a 1-1 draw on Jan. 7 in Chestnut Hill.

Junior Victoria Bach notched her 17th goal of the season on Saturday in the Terriers' 4-1 loss at Merrimack. She is second in Hockey East in both points (36) and assists (19) and is currently on a three-game point streak. Senior Samantha Sutherland is also on a three-game point streak, having recorded a helper in each of the last three tilts.

The Terriers are actually the last team to defeat the Eagles, as BC enters Tuesday unbeaten in its last 14 games (12-0-2). The Eagles extended their win streak to six on Wednesday night with a 4-1 win over Merrimack. Sophomore Makenna Newkirk leads the Eagles in points (30) and assists (20) while freshman Delaney Belinskas is the team's top goal scorer with 14 markers.

Junior goaltender Katie Burt has started all 24 games in which she has appeared for BC. She owns a 1.55 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage. BU is one of just two teams all year that put four or more pucks past her in a single game.

A week off awaits the Terriers following Tuesday's tilt, as their next game will not be until Feb. 7 when they return to Northeastern for either the championship game or consolation contest of the Beanpot. BU will face either the host Huskies or Harvard at either 4:30 (consolation) or 7:30 (championship) p.m.
