BOSTON -
Sally Starr will continue her Hall of Fame coaching career with the Boston University field hockey program, as the veteran of 12 NCAA tournament appearances has agreed to a multi-year contract extension, director of athletics
Drew Marrochello announced today.
Over the course of 36 seasons at the helm of the BU program, Starr has led the Terriers to 10 conference tournament titles and 14 regular-season conference titles while maintaining a team that is competitive nationally year in and year out.
"Plain and simple,
Sally Starr is BU field hockey," said Marrochello. "Her accomplishments speak for themselves and the program's tight-knit culture that she has molded over the years is truly remarkable. We're incredibly happy to keep her here for years to come."
A two-time Dita/NFHCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year (2005, 2007), Starr ranks sixth all-time in Division I coaching wins with 455. Her Terrier teams have posted winning records in 28 of the past 33 seasons and have been ranked among the top programs in the country since the mid-1980s.
This past fall, Starr earned conference coach of the year honors for the eighth time in her distinguished career.
"I would like to thank Drew, Senior Vice President Todd Klipp and President Robert Brown for their continued commitment to my involvement with the Boston University field hockey program," said Starr. "I have had the honor to lead this program for many years and I am more energized than ever for what the future holds for our student-athletes in the classroom and on the hockey field."
During her 34 years at the Division I level (BU gained Division I status in 1983), Starr has coached 37 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Americans, including six first-team selections, and 77 of her players have earned a combined 131 All-Region selections.
Starr was inducted into the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Hall of Fame at its annual convention in January 2015.
