MALIBU, Calif. – Reigning Patriot League Player of the Year Remi Ramos continued her junior campaign by representing the Boston University women's tennis team and the PL at the prestigious Oracle ITA Masters, which is being held at both the Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine University. The Parkland, Florida, native battled valiantly, winning a set against two nationally-ranked opponents before eventually falling in a pair of three-set thrillers.

The Oracle ITA Masters featured the top returning player from each of the 28 conferences with the other four slots filled by either a wild card or an at-large selection.

Ramos was presented a challenging draw as the No. 31 seed with several nationally-ranked opponents standing in her way. One year ago, she only won a combined six games against Duke's then-No. 55 Chalena Scholl and Maryland's then-No. 120 Ekaterina Tour.

On Thursday, despite facing No. 55-ranked Lauren Proctor (Winthrop's Big South Player of the Year), Ramos was just one of four lower-seeded players to win a set. She jumped out ahead, 6-3, but Proctor bounced back to win the next two sets with an identical score of 6-2.

Sent to the consolation bracket on Friday afternoon, Ramos again started strong by winning the first five games against the No. 15-seed and 71st-ranked Marinna Petrei, Idaho's Big Sky Player of the Year. Petrei won the next two games, but Ramos prevailed on her serve to jump out ahead, 6-2.

Looking to mount a rally, Petrei won 10 of the next 14 games to take a commanding 2-6, 6-3, 4-1 lead. However, Ramos dug deep to win the next three games and get back on serve with the two women tied at 72 points apiece.

The match seemed destined to go to a third-set tiebreaker, but Petrei managed to break Ramos one last time to advance, 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Besides playing in two singles matches, Ramos also participated in a unique mixed-doubles competition with Army's Michael Nguyen. Seeded 31st, they fell in the first round to UNC's No. 4-ranked Sara Daavettila and Wake Forest's No. 3-ranked Petros Chrysochos, 6-2.

With the great learning experience, Ramos will next compete at the ITA Northeast Regionals in Philadelphia on Oct. 18-23. The rest of her teammates are currently competing at the three-day Harvard Fall Classic (Sept. 22-24).
