BOSTON – Hitting the road for the first time in the Patriot League schedule, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit Holy Cross on Wednesday night with the start time slated for 7 p.m.
The contest will mark the second matchup of the annual Turnpike Trophy series featuring the two schools. BU women's soccer opened this year's competition with a 3-0 road win last week.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is currently 1-1-0 in the Patriot League following a 2-1 home win over American and 2-1 overtime loss to Lehigh.
- The last four Terrier losses have featured one-goal deficits with two of the contests being decided in overtime.
- BU is 0-2-2 on the road with 3-3 draw at Boston College and 2-2 tie at four-time defending Ivy League champion Dartmouth.
- Last week, both freshman Kari Petursson and junior Satchel Cortet moved into a tie for second on the team with six points apiece off two goals and two assists.
- They joined junior Matt McDonnell (6g) and sophomore Austin D'Anna (2g) in becoming multi-goal scorers this season ... McDonnell currently leads the PL with six goals despite having missed the last five games to injury.
- Senior T.J. Butzke and sophomore Toti Knutsson both own three assists apiece to lead the team.
- Senior goalkeeper Mike Bernardi owns a 0.744 save percentage and 1.59 goals against average in six starts.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
- The Crusaders are riding a three-game unbeaten streak with a 2-1 win at then-No. 16 UMass Lowell, 2-1 victory over Navy and 1-1 draw at Lafayette.
- Six of the nine HC games have required overtime ... The Crusaders went 1-1-4 with a draw at Boston College (1-1) and loss at Northeastern (1-0).
- Simon Becher owns a team-high seven points (3g,1a), while Max Krause has five points (2g,1a).
- Garrett Leahy owns a team-high two assists.
- Henry Stutz has played every minute at net, posting a 0.780 save percentage with a 1.28 goals against average.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU owns an 12-2-1 advantage in a rivalry that dates back to 1967 ... The two teams though did not meet between 1973-2009.
- The Terriers are 4-1-1 since joining the Patriot League in 2013 with the Crusaders pulling out a win in the first contest at Nickerson Field, 1-0.
- BU claimed a 3-0 win at home last season with McDonnell providing the initial spark on a 13th-minute goal ... Bernardi needed just one save for the shutout victory, as the Terriers finished with a 11-7 advantage in shots.
- Holy Cross though eliminated BU in the Patriot League semifinals in a 0-0 draw that required a penalty kick shootout ... The Crusaders fell to Colgate in the title game.
- In the last visit to Worcester in 2016, the Terriers claimed a 2-0 win despite being outshot, 20-14, with McDonnell assisting on both goals.
