SAAC Hosts 8th Annual Autism Field Day

April 16, 2019

BOSTON -The Boston University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted its eighth annual "Autism Field Day" for autistic children on Sunday, April 14 at BU's Track and Tennis Center.

Staffed by more than 40 BU student-athlete volunteers, the afternoon featured games such as basketball, soccer, tennis, lacrosse, races, and street hockey for children of all abilities and was also featured a pizza party. The day was held by the Terriers in honor of Autism Awareness Month and was part of Boston University's Global Days of Service, held each April.

"We had a great time hosting this year's "Autism Field Day," said SAAC member Logan Broedner of the Boston University men's track & field team. "We are happy to provide a welcoming and safe place for our guests to play and enjoy the day. This event is also an example of how BU's athletic department comes to together as a group and helps the community, which I am very proud to be a part of."

The event was hosted by BU student-athletes alongside special needs educational professionals. Many of the more than 100 guests attending were residents at Melmark New England, a school that serves children and young adults with autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury, neurological diseases and severe challenging behaviors.
