BOSTON – Continuing a five-game road trip, the Boston University men's soccer team will open its seventh year in the Patriot League at Lafayette on Saturday with a 12 p.m. start time.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU earned a 1-1 draw at Brown on Wednesday to snap a five-game losing streak ... Four of BU's five losses have been by one goal apiece, including last Saturday's 2-1 double-overtime heartbreak at UMass Lowell.
- Senior Matt McDonnell has netted a goal in each of the last two games and leads with 26 shot attempts (12 SOG), well ahead of sophomore and preseason All-PL Kari Petursson (nine shots), who missed Wednesday's game due to injury.
- Freshman Marc Roura is third on the team with seven shots and owns a point after assisting on McDonnell's goal at Brown.
- Freshman defender Florian Rieder is the only Terrier to have played all 580 minutes this season.
- Junior William Bonnelyche recorded two saves in the final 65 minutes of action at Brown on Wednesday for his first appearance of the year ... Junior Michael Stone has started all six games at net and currently has a 0.763 save percentage with a 1.57 goals against average.
- Opponents are averaging 2.6 more shots per game and have applied more pressure on the keeper with a .435 shots-on-goal percentage compared to BU's 0.263.
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
- The Leopards have been feast or famine offensively so far with a 3-0 win over La Salle, 5-2 victory vs. Monmouth and 4-0 win against Siena ... On the flip side, they were shut out by Temple (3-0) and St. Francis Brooklyn (0-0) ... The other result was a 0-0 draw at St. Francis Brooklyn.
- Lafayette is 4-1-1 with a perfect 3-0-0 record after going 5-8-4 and 2-5-1 a year prior.
- Sebastian Varela owns a team-high four goals and is one of seven to have found the back of net with both Ryan Goncalves (3g) and Marcos Kitromilides tallying multiple goals.
- Nine men have earned at least one assist with three earning two apiece.
- Alex Sutton has played every minute at net, posting a 0.80 goals against average and .848 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU leads the all-time series, 4-1-1, with a five-game unbeaten streak.
- Lafayette won the first-ever meeting at home in 2013 (2-0) and had a 0-0 draw at BU last season.
- In the 2018 matchup, BU posted an 18-6 advantage in shots with a 9-4 lead in corner kicks.
- Lafayette was the more physical team with 27 fouls and three yellows.
