No. 8/9 Terriers to Host No. 2/3 Northeastern in 42nd Beanpot Title Game

The No. 8/9 Boston University women's ice hockey team will look to win its second straight Beanpot title when the Terriers host No. 2/3 Northeastern in the championship contest on Tuesday night at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is set for 8 p.m.

Fans can purchase tickets online here or in person by visiting the Agganis Arena box office. Tickets will also be on sale at the Walter Brown Arena box office on Tuesday night. Boston College and Harvard will play in Tuesday's consolation game at 5 p.m.

Tuesday's title tilt will be televised live on NESNplus and streamed via NESNgo in New England, and streamed throughout North America on CBS All Access. Fans in Canada can catch the championship game live on TSN2 as well as on TSN GO.

BEANPOT TIDBITS

  • BU is looking to win a second straight Beanpot title for the first time.
  • The Terriers have two Beanpot championships to their credit, having also won as a club team in 1981.
  • This is the Terriers' third straight appearance in the Beanpot title game, the first time that has happened in the 42-year history of the tournament.
  • BU has faced a different opponent in all three championship contests - BC in 2018, Harvard in 2019 and Northeastern this year.
  • Each of the last two title tilts have gone to overtime.
  • This is the Terriers' eighth appearance in a title game and sixth as a varsity program.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES

  • Northeastern has won 10 straight games, including a 5-1 triumph at Merrimack on Friday.
  • The Huskies defeated No. 10 Harvard, 3-1, in last Tuesday's semifinal round.
  • Sophomore Alina Mueller is fourth in the country with 53 points (20g, 33a).
  • Classmate Chloe Aurard is tied for 10th in the nation with 39 points (18g, 21a).
  • Junior Aerin Frankel leads the nation in save percentage (.959) and is second in the NCAA with eight shutouts and a 1.06 goals-against average.

LAST TIME AGAINST THE HUSKIES

  • Senior Deziray De Sousa gave BU a 1-0 lead 7:54 into the first period, but No. 3 Northeastern scored two shorthanded goals in the second stanza to steal a 2-1 win on Tuesday at Matthews Arena.
  • Junior Corinne Schroeder made 29 saves, including 15 in the first frame.
  • Freshman Julia Nearis and junior Kristina Schuler assisted on De Sousa's sixth strike of the season.

TUESDAYS ARE FOR THE TERRIERS

  • BU defeated Boston College, 4-0, in the opening round of the Beanpot last week.
  • Junior Corinne Schroeder stopped all 33 shots she faced for her third shutout of the season.
  • Junior Jesse Compher scored two goals in a span of 2:25 to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead just 3:18 into the third period.
  • Senior Abby Cook's first-period strike stood as the game-winner.
  • Senior Deziray De Sousa added an empty-netter to seal the victory.
  • Redshirt senior Sammy Davis and senior Natasza Tarnowski assisted on the GWG.
  • Junior Nara Elia, sophomore Courtney Correia  and junior Kristina Schuler each had one assist.
  • BU only took two penalties and killed both power-play chances it faced.
  • The Terriers blocked 20 shots, led by senior Breanna Scarpaci's six blocks.

RECAPPING SATURDAY'S WIN

SCHROEDER HAS BEEN SENSATIONAL

  • Junior goaltender Corinne Schroeder earned her third shutout of the season on Tuesday against BC.
  • Her 33-save performance against the Eagles marked the second time she shut them out.
  • Schroeder ranks fifth in the NCAA with a .943 save percentage and sixth overall with a 1.50 goals-against average. 
  • She has allowed just five even-strength goals in eight starts against Beanpot opponents this year.
  • Harvard was the last Beanpot team to tally a goal at 5-on-5 against Schroeder, doing so in a 6-2 loss on Nov. 19.
  • Schroeder has also been excellent on the road this season, sporting a .944 save percentage and eight wins away from Walter Brown Arena.

DEZ KEEPS DELIVERING

  • Senior Deziray De Sousa has registered a point in eight of her last nine contests (6g, 4a) and extended her point streak to six games (4g, 3a) with an assist on Saturday.
  • De Sousa has factored on seven game-winning goals this season.
  • She scored a career-high two goals, including the eventual game-winner, in a 4-1 win over Holy Cross on Jan. 17.
  • De Sousa enters Tuesday with career highs in goals (8), assists (11) and points (19).

THE COMPHER FACTOR

  • Since junior Jesse Compher made her season debut on Nov. 9, BU is 15-3-2.
  • Compher leads the Terriers in goals (10), assists (15) and points (25) since her return.
  • She tallied two goals in Tuesday's 4-0 win over BC and followed that with one goal and two assists at Holy Cross.
  • BU is 12-0-1 this season when Compher collects a point.
  • Compher has also generated a team-high 73 shots on goal since Nov. 9 and has won 195 faceoffs.
  • Compher dominated the faceoff circle in Tuesday's triumph over BC, winning 15 of the 16 draws she took.
  • She then went 12-2 at the dot on Saturday at Holy Cross.
  • Since Jan. 31, no player in the NCAA has a better faceoff percentage than Compher, who has won 80% of the draws she has taken over the last three tilts.

DAVIS LEADING BY EXAMPLE

  • Redshirt senior Sammy Davis leads the Terriers in goals (14), assists (19) and points (33).
  • She tallied a pair of power-play goals on Saturday at Holy Cross and enters Tuesday having notched a point in three straight games and four of her last five appearances, totaling two goals and four assists in that span.
  • Davis had a seven-game point streak snapped on Jan. 10 but has since tallied 10 points (6g, 4a) over her last nine games, including an assist on Abby Cook's game-winning goal on Tuesday.
  • She has factored on each of the Terriers' last two game-winning goals.
  • BU is 17-2-2 when Davis records a point and 9-1-1 when she scores a goal.

DEFENSE IS STINGY

  • BU has allowed just 1.62 goals per game, which is fourth-best in the country and second-best in Hockey East.
  • At even strength (not including empty-netters), BU gives up one goal per game.

POWER SURGE

  • BU went 3-for-5 on the power play Saturday at Holy Cross.
  • Since Nov. 19, the Terriers have been the most successful power-play team in the country, clicking at 33.3%.
