BOSTON – With two games remaining in the regular season, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit in-state rival Holy Cross on Thursday night with action set to begin at 6 p.m.
The matchup carries major implications for the upcoming four-team Patriot League tournament, as the Terriers (1-1-0) and Crusaders (1-1-0) are currently tied for second in the North division alongside Colgate (1-2-0) at three points apiece. Only the top two teams from each division consisting of five programs will advance. Lafayette edged BU this past Saturday, 3-2, to move atop the standings at nine points (3-0-0) and clinch one of the two available slots for the tournament.
Through two games, sophomore
Ronaldo Marshall owns a team-high five points after netting the game winner at Colgate in a 3-0 win and compiling three points (1g,1a) against the Leopards. Freshman
Andrew Rent recorded a pair of assists in the first game and earned his first goal this past weekend to move up to four points. Classmate
Eitan Rosen also has two assists, while freshman
Aidan Holmes and sophomore
Ryan Lee both have a goal. Freshman
Andrew Wike has played the last 135 minutes at net, posting a .700 save percentage and 2.00 goals against average.
Hosting its lone game of the season, Holy Cross opened the spring with a 2-1 loss at Lafayette and then a 2-1 win at Army West Point. Like Marshall for BU, Matt McGonigle has earned a goal in both games while adding an assist for five points. Dylan Scanley owns the other goal, while Max Krause has an assist. Jimmy Joyce started at net in the loss to the Leopards with four saves, and Nick Conklu had two saves against the Black Knights.
BU is 13-3-1 all-time against the Crusaders and have won all four road games since joining the PL in the summer of 2013, including a 1-0 decision in 2018. Holy Cross avenged that loss with a 1-0 victory at Nickerson Field in 2019 behind an 18th-minute strike.
