ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Earning its second sweep at the Patriot League Tournament, the top-seeded Boston University women's tennis team overmatched No. 4 Bucknell, 4-0, in a semifinal contest Saturday morning at Navy's Fluegel-Moore Tennis Stadium.
BU (9-1) eliminated Bucknell (5-5) in just under two hours to advance to the championship round, where they will square off against No. 3 Navy tomorrow at noon.
Senior
Lily Burchell highlighted the match by earning victories in both doubles and singles to reach the 100-win milestone.
Burchell and fellow senior
Emily Kim posted a 6-2 win at the No. 1 in doubles while the duo of freshman
Kaitlin Tan and junior Shelley Yaloz coasted to a 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot.
Tan picked up a 6-0, 6-4 win at the No. 2 position in singles.
Emily Kim dominated both sets with 6-0, 6-0 results at the No. 3. Burchell clinched her 100th career win by scores of 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot.
The Terriers now set their sights on trying to capture their fifth PL title and first since 2017. They will face a Navy squad that rallied to defeat two-time defending champion and No. 2 seed Army, 4-3, in the other semifinal matchup.
BU last faced the Midshipmen in postseason action in 2017 when it picked up a 4-2 semifinal victory en route to its 17th automatic NCAA berth. The Terriers won the last matchup between the two programs one week ago,
6-1, at West Point, New York, though will now face Navy on its home court.
