The Boston University women's ice hockey team kicks off Hockey East play with a stretch of 12 straight league games, beginning with a home-and-home with New Hampshire starting on Friday (Oct. 14) on NESN for the Hockey East Game of the Week at 7 p.m.
The teams will meet again on Saturday (Oct. 15) at Walter Brown Arena for a 3 p.m. start. Both games will be on ESPN+ (broadcast guide).
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is in its 18th season as a varsity program.
- The Terriers have welcomed seven newcomers (five freshmen, two transfers) to a roster that returns 11 of the top 15 point-scorers from the 2021-22 season.
- Senior Nadia Mattivi is serving as captain for the 2022-23 campaign while juniors Lacey Martin and Madison Cardaci are this year's assistant captains.
- The Terriers were selected fifth in the Hockey East Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Senior Julia Nearis is the team's leading returning point-scorer after posting 20 last year, including a team-best 16 assists.
- Callie Shanahan enters her sophomore season after an impressive first year in goal that led to her being named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.
- Alex Allan and Jesse DeVito have returned for a fifth year to give the Terriers a larger veteran presence.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- New Hampshire is 1-4-0 through five games this season with its lone win coming against Union on Sept. 24.
- Last weekend, UNH kicked off Hockey East play with two games at Maine and fell to the Black Bears by scores of 3-2 and 4-0.
- Junior Brianna Brooks leads the Wildcats in both points (4) and assists (4) while sophomore Shea Verrier has a team-best three goals.
- Senior Tamara Thierus and sophomore Kira Juodikis tied for the team lead in points last season with 20 apiece.
- Graduate student Ava Boutilier has a .916 save percentage and and 3.28 goals-against average through four starts while senior Nicky Harnett picked up a win in her lone start.
BU-UNH SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 35-17-6 all-time against UNH, including a 14-9-4 mark at Whittemore Center and a 20-7-2 mark at home.
- The Terriers are 27-2-3 against the Wildcats over the teams' last 32 meetings.
- Six of the past eight meetings have taken place at the Whittemore Center.
UP NEXT
- The Terriers will once again be a part of the Hockey East Game of the Week next Friday when they visit Boston College to kick off another home-and-home weekend.
- Friday's game in Chestnut Hill will start at 6 p.m. and will be televised on NESN.
