HANOVER, N.H. – The Boston University women's tennis team competed at the ITA Northeast Regionals over the weekend in singles and doubles. Grad student Shelly Yaloz and junior Victoria Carlsten won all three of their singles matches to advance to the ITA Super Regional later this month.
 
To advance to the super regional event, a player had to reach the quarterfinals in singles or doubles.
 
Yaloz received a bye in the round of 128 and opened play against her opponent from Bryant in the round of 64. After defeating Natalia Vela in a come-from-behind win 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (8), she faced Rebecca Lynn of Yale. Yaloz dropped the first set but bounced back to secure the 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (7) victory. In her final match, Yaloz took on Stephanie Sanchez of Boston College. The Terrier settled in quickly and earned her bid to super regionals with a 6-4, 6-1 straight-sets win.
 
Carlsten also received a bye in the round of 128 before facing Dartmouth's Chloe Yoo in the round of 64. Carlsten quickly secured the 6-3, 6-1 win to face Muskan Mahajan of BC in the next round. After a first set loss, Carlsten rallied for the 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 (11) win to advance in the tournament. She earned her spot at super regionals with a walkover win and will join Yaloz at the tournament later this month.
 
In the rest of singles, sophomore Michelle Kleynerman competed through the round of 16 with wins against opponents from BC and Harvard. Sophomore Sydney Sharma also recorded a win against her Colgate opponent and junior Kaitlin Tan notched a straight-sets win over her Dartmouth foe.
 
In doubles, Tan and Yaloz went 1-1 on the weekend and defeated a doubles pair from Fairfield in a closely contested 8-6 match. Kleynerman and senior Erica Di Battista went 2-1 in the tournament with wins against opponents from Fairfield and Syracuse before Cornell halted their run.
 
Yaloz and Carlsten will compete in the ITA Super Regionals hosted at Yale from Oct. 21-24. A more detailed schedule will be announced at a later date.
