BOSTON – Igniting the 2022-23 athletic season, the Boston University women's soccer program opens its 28th season with a home contest on Thursday (Aug. 18) against crosstown foe Northeastern. Opening kick is set for 7 p.m.
The Terriers and Huskies match up in the campaign lidlifter for the second consecutive season. Both teams have faced one another at least once in every full season dating back to 2014. Thursday will be the 14th contest on BU turf in the series.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU begins its first season under Head Coach Casey Brown (COM'10), who rejoined the Terriers in June following Nancy Feldman's retirement. Brown won three conference championships as a player for BU, then three Patriot League titles on Feldman's coaching staff from 2013-15.
- Graduate student and reigning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year Jenna Oldham returns for a fifth season, and was named the 2022 Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
- In addition, TopDrawerSoccer ranked Oldham No. 100 in their Women's Top 100 National preseason rankings.
- Junior Abigail McNulty joined Oldham on the 2022 Preseason All-Patriot League Team. The pair led the Terriers in points last season and each tallied seven assists.
- BU was predicted to finish third in the 2022 Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll, and received six first-place votes. Navy was picked first, with reigning league champion Bucknell slotting in second place.
- Last season, the Terriers captured their fourth Patriot League regular season title, and 14th conference regular season championship, with an 11-6-3 record. BU totaled a 6-1-2 record against PL competition, and advanced to the Patriot League Championship title game.
- For 2022, BU returns over 87 percent of its offensive production from a season ago. Returning players accounted for 68 of the team's 78 points in 2021.
- Nine Terriers that made 11 or more starts are back for the upcoming season.
- In addition to Oldham and McNulty, who received All-PL First Team accolades last year, five additional All-Patriot League honorees are back in the mix: graduate student Amy Thompson (Third Team), seniors Julianna Stureman (Second Team), Geovanna Pereira (Third Team), and Ashley Buck (Third Team), and junior Lily Matthews (Second Team).
- Goalkeepers Gretchen Bennett and Celia Braun continue to occupy the net after combining for all 1,860 minutes in goal in 2021. The pair combined for a 1.11 goals-against average and .758 save percentage.
- With Brown at the helm, assistant coaches Allison Saucier and Megan Burke arrive to Terrier Town after stops at Seton Hall and Fairfield, respectively.
- On Wednesday, the coaching staff named Thompson, Buck, and graduate student Mikayla Alcorn as team captains. Alcorn is a captain for the second consecutive season.
- BU opens 2022 with three of its first four matches at Nickerson Field. The Terriers went 6-4-2 at home in 2021.
- During non-conference play, BU will square off against nine opponents from seven different conferences, including the CAA, Big East, America East, Big Ten, Ivy League, ACC, and A-10.
SCOUTING NORTHEASTERN
- Last year, Northeastern finished with a 5-4 conference record in the CAA and 9-9-1 overall, reaching the CAA Championship title match.
- The Huskies won more games on the road in 2021 than at home, sporting a 5-3 record in away matches.
- In the 2022 CAA Preseason Poll, Northeastern was projected to finished third, behind UNCW and Hofstra.
- Alexis Legowski and Faith Rosenblatt made the CAA Preseason All-Conference Team. Legowski was an All-CAA Second Team honoree in 2021, while Rosenblatt garnered CAA All-Rookie recognition as a freshman.
- Angeline Friel is the lone returning goalkeeper for the Huskies, having notched a 0.91 goals-against average in 13 games last year.

- Thursday marks the 23rd all-time meeting between BU and Northeastern in a series that began in 1996.
- The Terriers are 14-7-1 all-time against the Huskies, and are 8-4-1 at home in the rivalry.
- BU aims for its fourth win in the last five matches. The Terriers have not allowed a goal to Northeastern in the last 191:53 of playing time across two contests.
- Last season, BU triumphed 2-0 on Aug. 19 at Parsons Field.
