Women’s Soccer Hosts Boston College For Terrier Tailgate On Sunday

BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer program reignites the Battle of Comm. Ave with Boston College on Sunday (Sept. 4), welcoming the Eagles to Nickerson Field as part of Terrier Tailgate. Opening kick is slated for 4 p.m.
 
BU hosts its fourth home contest in six games, the final match before the Terriers hit the road for four consecutive road bouts. For Boston College, Sunday will mark its sixth-straight game in the state of Massachusetts, its final one in that stretch.
 
Terrier Tailgate opens with the tailgate at 3 p.m., located in the concourse in front of Nickerson Field. Admission to the tailgate and the game are free.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • In its last matchup, BU dropped a 1-0 road tilt at Yale on Thursday (Sept. 1).
  • The Terriers outshot the Bulldogs 6-3 and generated four corner kicks to Yale's two, but Alanna Butcher's goal in the 21st minute made the difference.
  • BU has outshot its foes in three of its first five games, a 54-46 difference in that category.
  • The Terriers have registered more corner kicks than their opponents in each game as well, compiling a 34-12 edge.
  • BU has scored multiple goals in three of its last four matches.
  • The Terrier defense has allowed one goal in four of its five matches in 2022 as well.

SCOUTING BOSTON COLLEGE
  • The Eagles enter Sunday's tilt with a 3-1-1 record, most recently playing UMass to a 2-2 draw on Sept. 1 in Amherst, Mass.
  • BU and Boston College have each played two common foes so far in Northeastern (4-1 win for BC) and Michigan (1-0 Eagles loss). BU will play UMass on Thursday (Sept. 8).
  • The Eagles defeated Patriot League foe Holy Cross 3-0 back on Aug. 28. Boston College's next two opponents will be Providence, whom the Terriers beat 2-1 on Aug. 21, and fellow PL side Army.
  • Emily Sapienza and Sam Smith each have three goals to pace an Eagle offense that has seen 12 student-athletes register a point in 2022.
  • Wiebke Willebrandt has played every minute in goal, recording a 0.80 goals-against average and an .800 save percentage.
  • Boston College was predicted to finish 12th in the ACC Preseason Coaches Poll after going 7-10-1 in 2021.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Sunday marks the 27th all-time meeting between BU and Boston College in a series that began in 1996.
  • The Eagles sport a 20-5-1 edge in the rivalry, having won six-straight matches.
  • The Terriers' last win came on Aug. 24, 2014, when Head Coach Casey Brown was an associate head coach with the program.
  • In the last matchup between the sides on Aug. 26, 2021, Boston College took a 3-1 decision. The Eagles scored the game's first three goals before Jenna Oldham found Margaret Berry for a Terrier tally in the 81st minute.
