BOSTON – Boston University men's soccer standout and two-time reigning Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year
Francesco Montali was chosen with the 24th pick of the third round in the 2024 Major League Soccer SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union Tuesday night.
A native of Davie, Florida, Montali was both the lone Patriot League representative and only player from a school in Massachusetts to be selected. Picked No. 82 overall, he's the first Terrier to be drafted since current FC Cincinnati striker Dominique Badji was the 67th player taken in the 2015 SuperDraft (4th Rd., 5th pick) by the Colorado Rapids.
This past season, Montali recorded eight shutouts to help the Terriers claim their first conference tournament title since 2008 and first regular season title since 2014. A 2023 All-Region First Team honoree, he posted an .800 save percentage in nine league games and finished the regular season 24th nationally in solo shutouts and 27th in goals against average (.800). He wrapped up his collegiate career recording a season-high seven saves in the NCAA opener at defending national champion Syracuse.
