STORRS, Conn. – No. 73 Boston University women's tennis (12-4, 1-0 PL) swept UConn (7-6, 1-2 Big East) on the road Sunday afternoon. After clinching the doubles point, the Terriers went on to win on all six singles courts to complete the 7-0 victory.
BU took the doubles point thanks to wins in the top two spots. Sophomore
Michelle Kleynerman and grad student
Shelly Yaloz earned a 6-3 win at No. 2 while senior
Erica Di Battista and junior
Kaitlin Tan clinched the point with a 6-4 win at the top of the lineup. Junior
Victoria Carlsten and freshman
Emily Zhao led their opponents 5-4 when play was suspended.
Kleynerman brought her momentum into singles to win in the No. 2 spot 6-1, 6-1. Tan was not far behind with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win of her own on Court 4. The Terriers sealed the deal thanks to Yaloz who won her match 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 1 spot to help BU reach a 4-0 lead.
Play continued on the remaining courts which all favored the Terriers. Freshman
Navya Vadlamudi and Carlsten both won in straight sets in the Nos. 5 and 3 spots, respectively. Lastly, sophomore
Sydney Sharma gave BU its seventh and final point after winning her match in a super tiebreak.
BU will return to Patriot League play on April 8 when it travels to Army West Point for a 6 p.m. match.
