BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team will close out another three-game week by hosting Vermont for a weekend series on Jan. 19-20.
Friday's game begins at 6 p.m. while Saturday's contest, which will be televised on NESN+, will start at 3 p.m. Both games will be available on ESPN+.
BU enters the weekend in seventh place in the Hockey East standings, just one point behind both Vermont and Providence.
This series will feature the top two faceoff teams in the league as the Catamounts have a nation-best 58.3% and the Terriers are at 54.1%.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU is coming off a shootout win over No. 13 Boston College in the Beanpot semifinals on Tuesday.
- The Terriers are averaging 6.9 shots more per game than their opponents this season. At this time last year, BU had a minus-8.9 shot differential, resulting in a plus-15.8 swing one year later.
- Senior Lacey Martin leads the team in both goals (10) and assists (9) for 19 points.
- Senior Catherine Foulem (7g, 6a) and sophomore Clara Yuhn (5g, 8a) have each added 13 points.
- Sophomore Luisa Welcke has scored a goal in five of the past six games.
- Freshman Alex Law, the runner-up for Hockey East Rookie of the Month in December, has eight points (2g, 6a) in her past 10 games.
- The Terriers' penalty kill is operating at 90.1 percent, which ranks second in Hockey East and fourth in the nation.
- Graduate student Alexa Matses (4-7-1, 2.59, .898) and freshman Mari Pietersen (5-2-1, 2.85, .864) shared time for the first three months of the season and junior Callie Shanahan (0-1-1, 3.39, .848) returned from injury last week and has made two starts.
- Graduate student Nadia Mattivi (2g, 8a) and senior Andi Calderone (3g, 7a) rank tied for fourth among Hockey East defenders in points per game at 0.45.
- BU is one of only three teams (Wisconsin, Ohio State) to have five defenders with at least seven points apiece.
SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
- Vermont enters the weekend on a four-game skid, dropping two games at home against Providence last weekend after falling twice at Rensselaer the previous weekend.
- The Catamounts' top non-conference win this season came against then-No. 11 St. Lawrence back on Oct. 13.
- Senior Natalie Mlynkova leads UVM in both points (22) and goals (11).
- Junior Evelyne Blais-Savoie has added 16 points on seven goals and nine assists while sophomore defender Krista Parkkonen has 15 points on the strength of a squad-best 12 assists.
- The Catamounts lead all Hockey East teams in shooting percentage at .104.
- Graduate student Sara Levesque has 53 blocked shots, which ranks third in the nation, and Vermont's team total of 331 blocks is the fourth-highest nationally.
- Senior Jessie McPherson has 13 starts in goal this season and currently has a 2.50 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY VS. VERMONT
- The Terriers are 39-11-8 all-time against the Catamounts, including a 21-4-6 record at Walter Brown Arena.
- BU has taken eight of the last 12 meetings with the Catamounts and is 9-3-2 in its past 14 games against Vermont.
- Last season, the teams split a home-and-home weekend in Vermont before BU earned a home win to win the season series.
- Both of BU's wins last season came in overtime.
