Women’s Soccer Welcomes Navy To Boston For Soc’toberFest

BOSTON – The Boston University women's soccer program returns to Patriot League play on Saturday (Oct. 5), when it hosts Navy at Nickerson Field. Opening kick is set for 1 p.m.
 
BU (2-7-3, 2-0-1 PL) takes part in its first of three home games in the month of October. The Terriers were idle for three days following a stretch of three matches in six days.
 
Navy (8-6-0, 2-1-0 PL) is back on the road following a two-game homestand. The Mids are 2-3 away from Annapolis, Md. this year.
 
Saturday marks Soc'toberFest at Nickerson Field. Both BU soccer teams host Patriot League matches, with the men's team scheduled to face Lafayette at 4 p.m. Fans can enjoy food trucks, a 21-plus beer garden, games, and giveaways.
 
The match airs on ESPN+, beginning at 1 p.m. Jess Todd, Milton Posner, and Caitlin Beal have the call. Live statistics and an audio-only stream are also available through GoTerriers.com, with an international broadcast provided by the Patriot League.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU recently played its final non-conference match in 2024, falling 3-0 at Yale.
  • The two sides were scoreless for the first 68 minutes before the Bulldogs scored three times within 14 minutes.
  • Juniors Margy Porta and Giulianna Gianino are the reigning Patriot League Offensive Player and Midfielder of the Week, respectively.
  • Gianino was also selected to the TopDrawerSoccer Women's Team of the Week for Sept. 23-29.
  • The Terriers' last home match and Patriot League match was a 6-1 triumph over Lehigh on Sept. 28.
  • In its last three seasons, BU is 6-3-2 in regular season home games during the month of October.
  • Since the start of last season, BU's Class of 2026 has accounted for 33 of the team's 48 goals, good for 68.8 percent.
  • Porta and Gianino are tied for third in the Patriot League this year with six goals. Sophomore Samantha Aronson's team-high three assists are tied for sixth. 
SCOUTING NAVY
  • The Mids are 8-6 on the year and 2-1 against the Patriot League, most recently falling to Colgate, 3-0, on Sept. 28.
  • Prior, Navy defeated Loyola Maryland, 4-3, and Lehigh, 3-0.
  • Amanda Graziano paces Navy with six assists and 14 points. Alex Riddle has a team-high five goals to pair with 13 points. The Mids' 32 goals in 2024 pace the conference.
  • Navy was projected to finish sixth in the Patriot League preseason poll behind Lehigh and ahead of Colgate. Riddle garnered Preseason All-Patriot League recognition.
  • Last season, the Mids went 9-7-3, and 3-6-0 in the Patriot League. 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday marks the 14th all-time meeting between BU and Navy in a series that began when BU entered the Patriot League in 2013.
  • The Terriers boast a 10-3-0 edge in the rivalry.
  • BU has won three matches in a row and four of the last five. The Terriers haven't lost to the Mids in regulation since 2017.
  • At home, BU is a perfect 4-0, with a 5-0 scoring margin.
  • The Terriers won last year's meeting down in Annapolis, 3-2. Gianino and Abigail McNulty scored to open the second half, and McNulty's 85th-minute tally proved to be the game-winner.
