The Boston University field hockey team will open its home schedule on Friday (Sept. 6) when it hosts No. 12 Michigan.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU split its opening weekend, posting a 3-0 win at Providence before falling at No. 17 Boston College by a score of 6-0.
- Fifth-year Tess Csejka, senior Katie Devine and junior Natalie Epperson provided the goals against the Friars.
- Sophomore Sophie Ortyl turned in a seven-save shutout against Providence in her first colleigate start.
- The Terriers are in their 47th season at the varsity level.
- Senior Payton Anderson, junior Martu Coulo and sophomore Nicole Lauro were all named to the NFHCA Division I Watchlist last week.
- Anderson and Coulo were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
- BU was picked fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll.
- Junior Caroline O'Brien is the team's leading returner in both goals (9) and points (18). Â
SCOUTING MICHIGAN
- The Wolverines are also 1-1 on the young season as they opened with a 4-1 loss to defending national champion North Carolina before rebounding with a 2-1 win over No. 18 Wake Forest.
- Both games were at home as part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
- Redshirt junior Abby Tamer, who scored two goals for Team USA in the Paris Olympics, tallied a goal and an assist on opening weekend.
- Michigan returns 17 players from last season's squad, including eight players who earned double-digit starts in 2023.
- Redshirt freshman Hala Silverstein made her first two collegiate starts in goal last weekend.
BU-UM SERIES HISTORY
- BU is 2-4 all-time against Michigan.
- The teams have not faced off since a 3-1 Michigan win in Ann Arbor during the 2011 season.
- The Terriers and Wolverines met in the first round of the 2005 NCAA tournament with Michigan pulling off a 4-3 overtime win at Ohio State.
- The Terriers' last win came in a 3-0 home triumph during the 1988 season.
