WINCHESTER, Mass. – The Boston University women's tennis team played in its first Patriot League match of the season, defeating Colgate 6-1 on Sunday at the Winchester Tennis Club.
 
Freshman Madison Liu and sophomore Blanka DeMicheli were the first pair to win in doubles, picking up a 6-1 win at line two. Sophomore Uma Bakaityte and freshman Gabriella Mikaul clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win at the No. 1 spot.
 
Liu brought her momentum from doubles into singles as she was the first Terrier to win with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the top of the lineup. Junior Emily Zhao was next to earn a point for BU with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 3 spot. Junior Rhea Rai clinched the victory for the Terriers, winning 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot to help BU pick up its first league win of the season.
 
Play continued in the remaining singles spots with DeMicheli making it 5-0 in BU's favor with a 7-6 (6), 6-3 victory at line two. Senior Nina Gulbransen won her match at the No. 4 spot in a 6-1, 6-3 decision to secure BU's final point of the day. Colgate earned a win at the bottom of the lineup to bring the final score to BU 6, Colgate 1.
 
The Terriers will play again on Saturday (March 1) when they travel to Brown for a 1 p.m. match.
