Second-Seeded Terriers Prepped for Patriot League Championship

BOSTON – Eyeing its seventh Patriot League title and seventh NCAA berth in 12 years, the second-seeded Boston University women's tennis team will open the Patriot League Championship with a Friday afternoon match against seventh-seeded Colgate in the quarterfinals. First serve is set for 2:45 p.m. at the J.W. Abrahamson Tennis Courts in Hamilton, N.Y.
 
The other two teams on BU's side of the bracket, No. 3 Navy and No. 6 Loyola Maryland, will play on Friday at 1:15 p.m. On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded Army West Point will play the winner of No. 8 Lafayette and No. 9 Holy Cross at 9 a.m. while No. 4 Lehigh and No. 5 Bucknell will play at 10:45 a.m.
 
TERRIER TIDBITS
  • BU finished the regular season 10-8 overall with a 6-1 record in Patriot League play.
  • The last time BU was the No. 2 seed in the Patriot League Championship was in 2017 when it won 4-1 against Army West Point in the championship match.
  • Sophomore Uma Bakaityte owns eight singles wins at the No. 1 spot, three of which have come in league play.
  • Freshman Gabriella Mikaul is 4-1 in league singles play with all four wins occurring in the top two spots.
  • Freshman Madison Liu is 9-8 overall and 5-1 in league singles play this season.
  • Sophomore Blanka DeMicheli owns the most wins of the Terriers in Patriot League singles play with a 6-1 record.
  • Junior Rhea Rai has a record of 4-1 in league singles play and a 5-1 record overall at line six.
  • Fellow junior Emily Zhao is 5-2 in conference singles and 9-8 in dual matches.
  • Bakaityte and Mikaul lead BU in doubles with a 10-7 record at the top of the lineup.
  • Zhao and senior Nina Gulbransen own an 8-5 record at line three and a 1-0 record at line two in doubles.
  • DeMicheli and Liu have a 4-1 league doubles record with a 9-5 record overall at the No. 2 spot.
  • Bakaityte, Zhao, DeMicheli and Liu have all garnered Patriot League player of the week once this season.
 
SCOUTING COLGATE
  • Entering Friday's match, the Raiders are 12-10 overall and 3-5 in Patriot League play.
  • BU most recently defeated Colgate on Feb. 23, 2025, 6-1.
  • The Terriers and the Raiders have never faced each other in the postseason.
