ALBANY, N.Y. -
The Boston University women's soccer team (8-2-1, 1-0-0 AE) opened America East action with a 2-0 victory over Albany (2-7-0, 0-1-0 AE) on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Kylie Strom and freshman Taylor Krebs found the back of the net in the team's third straight win.
After some back-and-forth action in the opening minutes of the match, Strom took back-to-back corner kicks in the 12th and 20th minutes, respectively, breaking the scoreless deadlock on the latter as her curving shot ricocheted off an Albany player and into the net for the game winner.
Krebs scored her fourth goal of the season and provided the Terriers with some insurance in the 35th minute as she drove to the net, getting passed the UA defenders and taking on netminder Dani Britt one-on-one before shooting it right past her. Senior Katherine Donnelly was credited with the assist on the play.
In the second half, the Terriers came out firing on all cylinders with a barrage of shots in the opening 10 minutes of the stanza. Senior Jessica Luscinski unloaded two attempts, with one on target, while sophomore Madison Clemens and Strom's attempts were off just the mark.
BU continued to dominate possession and outshot UA, 9-4, in the final 35 minutes, during which time it hit one cross bar and forced goalkeeper Dani Britt to make five stops.
In all, the Terriers outshot the Great Danes by an impressive 20-7 margin, putting 11 on frame. BU also earned five corner kicks to Albany's one. Sophomore Megan McGoldrick led all players with six shots and five on target, while Luscinski fired off four of her own.
Sophomore Kelly King played all 90 minutes in net and recorded four saves for her third shutout of the season.
BU returns to Nickerson Field on Thursday, Sept. 29, when it welcomes Vermont at 7 p.m. Thursday's game will also be Faculty & Staff Night, where the team's nine seniors will recognize faculty members in a pregame ceremony.
