Men's Soccer PL Awards - Gilbert & Viteri

Gilbert, Viteri Honored Again by the Patriot League

October 31, 2016

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – After playing key roles in a pair of must-win games, senior Matt Gilbert and junior Anthony Viteri have been recognized again with Patriot League weekly honors, the conference announced Monday afternoon.

The Terriers were sitting at ninth place in the conference standings with the six-team PL tournament looming and posted shutout wins over Holy Cross (2-0) and Army West Point (1-0) to move into fifth and control of their own destiny for a berth.

On Wednesday, Gilbert recorded four impressive diving saves to earn Turnpike Trophy MVP honors against the Crusaders. He followed up with another four-save shutout win on Saturday against the Black Knights to claim PL Corvias Goalkeeper of the Week accolades for the third time this season.

Already a recipient of one Midfielder of the Week and one Offensive Player of the Week award, Viteri claimed both honors on Monday with the help of game-winning goals against both Holy Cross and Army. In both strikes, he fired low grounders past the goalkeepers while on the run to move into a tie for first on the team in points at 16 alongside senior Felix De Bona.

The Terriers will next host Navy on Friday (Nov. 4) at 7 p.m. in the regular season finale.
