One of the brighter stars in a dynasty enriched decade of Terrier hockey, Peter Brown helped guide the Scarlet and White to a trio of NCAA Final Four appearances, ECAC banners, and a pair of Beanpot victory parades around the Boston Garden ice.
After three sparkling, yet overshadowed, underclassmen campaigns, the 1975-76 season co-captain netted career highs in goals (9), assists (42), and points (51), while helping Boston University engrave its name on a third straight ECAC plaque and play its third straight NCAA semifinal game, where it suffered a 4-2 setback to Minnesota. Despite the loss, Brown copped All-American honors, ECAC Player of the Year, ECAC All-Star, Boston University Athlete of the Year, and Team MVP laurels.
A freshman during the 1972-73 season, Brown began the campaign with the programs' B-team, but, after beating opposing netminders for nine points on three goals and six assists through five games, he was quickly elevated to varsity status. Despite the elevation in status, Brown continued his torrid scoring pace, netting three goals and 15 assists for 18 points over the final 18 games, while helping the club to its fourth straight Beanpot.
The following year, the Terriers posted a 7-5 win over Harvard to add the ECAC trophy to their showcase of tournament hardware, before making the first of three trips to the NCAA Final Four, where they suffered a 5-4 semifinal round loss to Minnesota. In 31 games, Brown tallied 4 goals and a team-leading 38 assists for 42 points, while helping the club to a 23-8 mark. In recognition of his efforts, Brown earned Second Team All-New England and ECAC All-Star honors.
As a junior, Brown again copped Second Team All-New England and ECAC All-Star accolades, after netting six goals, and 27 assists, for 33 points, while helping the Terriers to a 26-5-1 slate. Among the wins was a 4-1 triumph over Boston College in the Beanpot final, a 7-3 defeat of Harvard in the ECAC final, and a 10-5 advantage over the Crimson in the NCAA Semifinals, after bowing to Michigan Tech, 9-5 the previous day.
Brown was selected in the seventh round of the 1974 Amateur Draft by the Atlanta Flames. He later returned to Boston University to serve as an assistant coach throughout the mid-80's, and was named to the ECAC All-Decade Hockey Team (1970-1979).Â
