Jack Garrity was an All-Eastern and All-American hockey player, at the time setting a school and national record scoring 84 points in his two years as a varsity player. He also served on the U.S. Olympic team in 1948 while a freshman at BU.

He accomplished this on top of graduating a four-year course in three years and being married with two children.

Garrity was a three-sport athlete at Medford H.S., excelling in hockey, baseball and football. After high school he served in the Army during World War II before matriculating to BU in 1948.

He set the scoring record his sophomore and junior seasons, as at the time, freshmen were not permitted to play on the varsity. He led the Terriers to the finals of the NCAA championships as a sophomore.
