Bruce Hescock was inducted into the Hall of Fame in recognition of his performances in track. He earned All-America honors with his specialty being the pole vault. At a time when poles were made of solid wood, Hescock vaulted 14 feet.

A native of Rochester, N.H., Hescock did not restrict his talents to the pole vault. He was also an outstanding high jumper as he won IC4A titles in both the high jump (1954-55 season) and pole vault (1953-54 season).

Hescock might have been an outstanding decathlete as he showed in a dual meet at Dartmouth. He won both his specialties with record-breaking form, plus won the long jump, the 35-pound weight throw, the hurdles, and ran a leg on the winning two-mile relay.

Later in the year, Hescock combined with another BU Hall of Famer, Billy Smith, to score 42 points in a big victory over Harvard.

In addition, he captained the Terriers for two years, and as a senior was voted the outstanding performance at the intercollegiates at Madison Square Garden after winning the pole vault and high jump.

After graduation, Hescock went into the Air Force where he served as a pilot. During his four-year career, he also competed in track as he high jumped (he jumped a service record 6-8) and pole vaulted (14-4).
